Nancy Says “Long overdue is the clearing of the air on Wide Bay
Water by Tourism, Regional Development and Industry Minister
Desley Boyle”! Nowhere have I read or heard Ms Boyle comment
on the issues debated in this city regarding Wide Bay Water and
the old Hervey Bay City Council. Maybe I missed something?
Nancy Says “The corporate option should be explored by the
Fraser Coast Regional Council in relation to other units”! Why?
Corporatization is only one step away from privatization, is this
the step you want to go down?
I believe ALL public utilities should be owned by the people.
Water, electricity, sewerage, gas, roads, rail, health, none
of these should ever have been privatized. You tell me one
area in which privatization of public utilities has reduced costs,
improved service or increased quality?
However, as an ex board member? I can see where Nancy is
coming from.
Breaking news! We should all be proud, as word has just come in from the Australian Journalists Association that our very own Nancy Bates of Fraser Coast Chronicle has been honoured in their annual Australian Media Awards!
Nancy has received the award for “Excellent in Journalistic Ethics” in relation to coverage of local politics over the past year and, most recently, the local government elections. Wow! Congratulations Nancy, I’m sure we all agree it’s a most deserved accolade!
The State goverment connection to WBW is simply because they are grooming it to become the private water distibution entity for the widebay burnett. The Bligh cabinet is intent on creating a Widebay Burnett water grid which will link to the SEQ grid , so the entire system can be privatised and sold on to the highest bidder . Get ready for it , because it is coming.
Binlarfin, you have one point wrong, mate! Our water infrastructure will not be sold to the highest bidder - it will be sold to the best mate.
Not Australian, you can bet on that!
Qld Govt. has stolen our water rights in contravention of the Australian Constitution. Check out Qld’s Water Bill 2000 (chapters 2/2/19 & 1/4/1)and sections 100 and 109 of our Federal Constitution. Your local and state members will provide you with a copy upon request.
Then check out who has been buying all the infrastructure we taxpayers have provided (because private enterprise is sooo much more efficient!) and see how much of it has remained in Australian hands.
Next look at the exemption given in 1952 where it is ok for foreign companies to remove profits from Australia, tax exempt.
Then follow up the nationality of what firms gave jobs to many senior politicians after retirements / sackings.
In all, not a comforting scenario.
