The Fraser Coast Regional Council held is first Planning &
Development meeting today. There were three applications on
the agenda.
Item 4.1
Material change of use, two (2) lots into seventeen (17) lots in
Annie Street, HOWARD. This was rejected due to the potential
for flooding, the land being low lying.
Item 4.2
Reconfiguration of two (2) lots into fifty one (51) lots in Madsen
Road, URRAWEEN. The mayor vacated the chair, whether there
was a conflict of interest or a pecuniary interest, I don’t know.
Councillor McNeven took the chair and the recommendation to
approve the application was passed 9/0 with councillor MucKan
abstaining.
Item 4.3
Material change of use multiple units in access of two (2) stories
in height. Restaurant/food services and vegetation removal. The
Esplanade, SCARNESS. This application was deferred until July 9,
at the request of the applicant. The officer’s recommendation was
for a refusal.
There were three items in CONFIDENTIAL these being the
Waterfront (Qld) Pty. Ltd - Crn Fraser Street & The Esplanade,
Seashift Properties - Burrum Heads Road, Burrum Heads and
Torquay Heights Drainage Flooding Issues. All three were covered
verbally!
On resumption of the open meeting no comment was offered, so
I’m unable to comment.
General Business - Councillor Dalgleish requested an update on
the Burrum Town Plan.

Just a wee point. You cannot ‘abstain’ from a vote of Council. If you are present when the vote is taken and you do not vote in the affirmitive then your vote must be counted against the motion. (LGA)
On another note it was rather galling as 1 of the former Councillors of the ’smaller Councils’ to read the Mayor’s patronizing remarks in todays paper.
For Mick’s info Tiaro shire considered developments bigger than 51 blocks regularly. The largest in the last term was over 200 lots. Not all large developments occur in HB.
I enjoy some of your remarks Jim MacKellar, but I must say that I have never noticed any subdivisions in Tiaro of 200+ blocks.
In fact, the only thing particularly notable about Tiaro seems to be the the incredibly low speed limits for thru-traffic on the Bruce highway and the reputation of its unusually enthusiastic traffic police. I would have thought that even Jim would admit that there is little development similarity between HB and Tiaro in terms of size, investment costs, potential or future impact on the region!
Mick may have been a little tactless in his comments on this point, but lets call a spade ‘a spade’ Jim?
I’m afraid Dilbert, that you have made the same mnistake that the previous Councils in Tiaro did. Tiaro shire consisted of much more than just Tiaro township. In fact Tiaro is only the 4th largest residential area in the old shire.
The largest was Curra and a lot of development has occured there in the last 3 years. It was here, adjacent to the Meadows estate, that we approved a 240 lot subdivision some 20 months ago. The area is now in the Gympie region and when the it was transfered the developer was still trying to get us to reduce the road works we required of him. Last I heard it was going to court.
There have been a steady stream of subdivisions occurring to the east of the highway in that area and another large one in Gunalda which is just coming onto the market.
Last year HB was the fastest growing LGA in the state, but what is less well known is that Tiaro was the 3rd fastest and 12th nationally. It mainly had to do with the overspill out of Cooloola and the Sunshine Coast because Curra is only 10 minutes out of Gympie.
