Another day

Such protests simply hurt the athletes” Nancy Says and she
may be right. She is also right when she says political leaders
are insincere when using sport to promote their points of view.

However, what she fails to acknowledge, is that she and most
other editors assist and condone the actions of our political
leaders. In the interest of keeping their jobs and making a quid,
they go with the flow. Bond was a hero, then he was a dog!
Skase was a hero, then he was a dog! It was right to invade
Iraq, wasn’t it?
There are two types of editors, those that pursue the truth and
those that pursue a quid. I leave it to you to decide who’s, who.

Well said, John Neve. There are two types of editor, those that pursue the truth, and those who pursue the quid. Dollar in this case.

I believe we all know at what point the editor on the Chronic sold her soul. APN, when it took over our daily preferred editors who could generate extra circulation. Those editors who pursued that aim were well rewarded. The editor of our local rag embraced the ethos and pursued she pursued those aims vigorously.

Luckily for her, the ever increasing population of Hervey Bay has helped realise increasing circulation figures…but has it? The Fraser Coast Chronicle was initially working from a very low base. The region has a roughly worked out number of households and using an average of four per household that equates to about 23,000 households. Circulation figures are around the 9,766 mark compared with a possible household figure of 23,000, that infiltration by our only available daily newspaper is pretty poor.

Based on these figures, I don’t believe the daily paper should be crowiing. Its circulation figures are pretty poor in comparison.

I agree also … the editor of our local rag has never cared about the people that may have to read her rubbish, she has always been chasing the elusive dollar. As Bec says, the circulation of this paper is poor when compared to the population growth in this area. APN while chasing the dollar through circulation, has made a critical mistake in retaining an editor that is not liked nore respected by the community she is suppose to inform. So to make up the difference, our daily editor has keep the bean counters happy by employing kids to do the job, thus giving us a light weight, none investigative, uninformative rag. But lets not worry about that, as long as the FIGURES are good, right Nance?
