Stripped of our freedoms

     Nancy Says.

“Business of individuals, not governments”,Nancy Says
and she is very right. It appears Nancy and I have some
thing in common! We both drink fermented brews. But
Nancy’s article is not about alcohol, it’s about personal
freedom. Over the last twenty or thirty years we have
been stripped of our freedom of choice and freedom of
association. This has been done by successive governments
under the guise of Safety, Health, Terrorism or Political
correctness!!!
I find it amazing that since the day our ancestors crawled
out of the slim, stood up and took the first step on dry
land. Our personal Safety, Health and Thoughts were ours
and ours alone. Now educated, living in the SMART state
and shooting for the stars, we have to be told what is
good or bad for us!!!!! We are told what to say, what to
think and worse, not to argue.
Nancy and I might, just might, have two things in common.
Our loss of personal FREEDOM.

I personally can’t fathom why a water park would even be considered when we live in such a fantastic area with a beautiful foreshore and swimming beach. What a waste of money especially when all we hear about are water restrictions and the building of dams.

I think money would be far better spent on a convention centre to bring culture and professional entertainment to Hervey Bay!!!

I wish Jeanette Maynes and her blog well. The more open comment we get the better. The better the choice the better the decision.
However, I disagree with Jeanette on the need for another convention centre. As I have mentioned before Hervey Bay’s largest convention centre closed not too long ago. I suggest for lack of support. The Brolga only thirty minutes away requires ratepayer money to prop it up!! If there is any spare money in the Fraser Coast Regional Council coffers? Let’s spend it on the region’s roads.

Dear Jonangel thank you for the well wishes!!!
Re Convention Centre; The last thing i want to do after a long day at work is drive at night to another town on bumpy roads with the cost of petrol as it continues to rise.

Jeanette, your point is well taken. But If I understand you, we should also build a “Convention Centre” at Tiaro, Woocoo, Howard etc. If you lived in Brissy you might also have to travel for 30 minutes to go to a show. It takes me 15 minutes to get to the local cinema.

Dear Jonangel, I feel you have misunderstood. I clearly stated Hervey Bay and made no reference to the towns you have mentioned? I choose not to live in Brisbane as I also choose not to drive 30mins to see a show.

Jeanette, so I did read you correctly. You want ratepayers to provide you with some thing in Hervey Bay. But ratepayers in Tiaro, Woocoo, Howard etc can go hang. People in OUR new rgional council area should be treated equally, shouldn’t They?

Dear Jonangel, no once again you have not read me correctly. Once again I have not mentioned those towns and would certainly never use an expression such as “go hang”. Whether the council approves to spend rate payers money on convention centre’s in the area is their decision. Whether the council treats people equally is also their decision, not mine. But I do agree with you that it would be delightful to have a convention centre in every town! Residents may like to bring it up with council…like I have.

Question: What do people not use their real name on this blog?

Jeanette, some of us like being able to speak our minds or ask the tricky questions with anonimity due to our position in the community.

As for a “Hervey Bay” convention centre, if it were viable to have one in Hervey Bay private enterprise would have done it a long time ago.

As it was, the facilities that were available weren’t adequately supported to justify refurbishment or replacement.

Jeanette,to get hung-up on wording is a waste of time.
The facts are we are now one amalgamated council, the Brolga is central to the region as a whole. The brolga has to be subsidised, I believe to the tune of $400,000 per year. To duplicate it when we are in debt makes little sense. It would be a better option to upgrade the Hervey Bay-Maryborough Road. A lot more people would benefit.
