Yes the conservatives can smell a political cadaver in the wings , political pragmatist, and i agree with some of your sentiment , they ARE out to harness the anti traveston vote to hopefully get one of the off spring elected .
1200 votes should do it , and as you point out , ‘is there a viable alternative ‘?
Would a conservative drovers dog woof it in?
A conservative member in Hervey Bay does not ’sustainable’ use of the environment make.
However i can say that the qld opposition have finally grasped a smidgin of the green perception, based on my discussions with some of them . The young conservatives well understand the need to embrace the urban greeness and they are planning as we speak to make inroads .
Woe betide the young socialists that ignore this at their folly , the ‘tractor driver from Warwick’ , is no fool , his people have watched the Traveston Movie and have had a revelation .
I made this clear to Andrew when i spoke to him at the community cabinet forum , unseating Andrew will have no direct influence on whether Traveston Dam happens or not , ‘there are many ways to smoke a mullett’.
What we need to remember here is that his party has made no arrangement for regional compensation for the Fraser Coast , to account for the economic loss or ‘costs ‘ which the dam will produce for our economy. We therefore have no option but to shake the voting assagai at him and Anna , in the hope that they will come to the fire and barter for the future use of the regions water , and or a share which may be made available to the SEQ for a market value per megalitre.
The river is our regional resource , I reminded both Andrew and Anna that they had failed to come to the fire and negotiate for sharing of the resource , and if they continue with this method of domination , we will stop them , the hard way .
We do not need to lose Andrew , we just need to get him and Anna to compromise, its their choice , they control the labor party’s political destiny in the Fraser Coast.
They know Traveston is not really needed , they just need to find an elegant escape plan , and i and many others are working very diligently to prepare it .
Bringbackstrewth writes: Roger you make some very valid points here and hence got lifted to the main page. What we’re stil cautious about is your statement that we don’t need to get rid of Andrew McNamara - yes on some topics he sings the same tune but on Traveston he has proven that he is still a party man and will toe the party line regardless of what his community says.
Our politicians are there to serve us and not their party bosses. If they are talented operators they will convince us that what they want and what we want are the same thing - heaven forbid. Andrew has failed to do this and unless he turns himself around and shows some backbone he will be thrown out with the baby at the next election.
There is growing discontent and if “the Borg” gets his team heading in the right direction and quickly the current government will need to take notice and fast!
CAUTION
Let me clarify , ‘ we dont need to lose Andrew’ , providing he has the same revelation as the ’slightly more conservatives’ have had , it was one of ‘our’ flock that gave him the ‘peak oil revelation’, so he does have potential for greenlogic !.
Should he fail in the lesson of course , then his lesson will be a hard one , ‘the customer is always right’ !
If Anna can afford to make him the sacrificial rosemary and garlic lamb , so it shall be, and we will just have to take our chances with whatever the ’slightly more conservatives’ offer us for main course, could be lamb or mutton , depending on how you percieve it!, ‘preferences’ for either could be very interesting indeed !
Roger,
The problem with most of our pollies is that they are merely party stooges, toeing the party line.
What is needed is some fresh blood in the form of an independent with a bit of backbone.
There is no shortage of qualified people in this area.
The biggest problem in the way of any election campaign would be getting a fair go from the local printed media.
What’s the bet that past favours will taint any local campaign. I can see the headlines ‘Ted’s our man’ even now!
Roger is right about Andrew MacNamara. He didn’t dream up Peak Oil theory. He merely repeats it over and over and over ad nauseum. And the press keep giving him free publicity. A local educated Green supporter Dr Richards gave him the book. Andrew ran around big noting himself with the info.
Remember his grand prediction of petrol $2 a litre before Christmas? But that was several years ago! Petrol was about 75 cents a litre 10 years ago. Now double that. Not much more than inflation.
No-one really doubts peak oil theory but what has Andrew MacNamara really done to improve the situation? The theory is more than 50 years old yet MacNamara carries on like he invented it! All his hot air is merely adding to the global warming problem!!!!
Why not Dr Ian Richards as an Independent candidate at the next State election?
Sorry barfly, but I can’t see a greens candidate/supporter having near enough support in this region to succeed next election.
If someone is to be unseated, that strategy won’t work! Someone with wider public appeal, leadership skills and a proven reputation for actually ACHIEVING things that electors actually WANT achieved would be the way to go in my book.
commonsens,
You are right - but back to the original problem - if there is anyone out there who has this ability for ACHIEVING how the hell are we going to get it publicly acknowleged, given that the local media is totally bereft of any integrity, impartiality, honesty and is in the pockets of the old establishment?
D DAY FOR DEMOCRACY IN THE FRASER COAST
July the 29th will mark the close of the one month government consultation period , which I offered the Premier , Deputy Premier and Minister for Sustainablity, at the community Cabint forum in Hervey Bay on Sunday the 29th June, to allow them to publicly release the Draft Wide Bay Coastal Management Plan 2007.
I believe it will serve the public interest to see that a group of local citizens appointed by the Beattie cabinet came up with a plan for mitigating the impacts of development on the Wide Bay Coast.
The group who crafted the plan included , Development , Conservation , Traditional Owners , Local Goverment, Primary Production , Fisheries and NRM delegates who were appointed by Minister Desley Boyle and the Cabinet.
I shall make this plan available for public comment on my wordblog on that date and supply the necessary email and post addresses for comments to be forwarded to , this process will be a demonstration to the Bligh goverment of public democracy at work , and will allow the QLD goverment the ability to have a say in what the people want , in respect of adequate protection of the coasts values.
This will be a unique public consultation process , because it reverses the political assumption that the ruling political party knows what is best for the people of the Fraser Coast Region , this will allow the people of the Fraser Coast Region , let the Minister for Sustainablity and the Bligh goverment know what they want , not what Andrew McNamara and the Qld Labor party want for us!
It will also allow any ‘potential challengers’ to the seat of Hervey Bay, to show their hand on where they stand concerning sustainable development for the Fraser Coast.
